Cakes from late February 2012

Man, I just keep falling behind on posting on this blog.  We’re just amazingly busy right now.  This has easily been the busiest January and February we’ve had at Twiggs Bakery in our 15 years of existence.  Our January 2012 sales were 23% higher than our January 2011 sales.  I’m a little amazed and a lot grateful.   Here are some fun cakes we’ve worked on in the last 2 weeks.  With all the pictures, just click on them to get bigger images.

Little Xavier was being baptized and mom and dad threw a party to celebrate the occasion at Phil’s BBQ in Pt. Loma.  They wanted baby blocks spelling out XAVIER and didn’t want them super religious.  Emily just did a great job — with Shannon and me pitching in at the last minute to get them finished before the delivery.

Emily also worked on a great three tier cake featuring three jungle animals.  It really was eye catching.

We’ve done Tiffany boxes a few times, but this is the first time we’ve done a Tiffany Gift Box for Tiffany’s itself.  The Tiffany’s in Fashion Valley was celebrating their 20th anniversary, so their marketting firm ordered a cake from Twiggs to celebrate the occasion.  It was slightly nerve wracking to do — especially to match their trademark blue-green “Tiffany Blue” color.  But the cake just turned out great.   I don’t know about the staff at Tiffany’s, but the marketting firm was very happy with the cake, which is great.

Finally, everyone got a kick out of  our recreation of the signature pink doughnut from The Simpson’s.  Seeing people light up and smile when you take their cake out to them is so rewarding.  Everyone in the cafe was smiling when this one came out for it’s photo op and presentation.

All for now.  It’s Friday afternoon and there are another pile of orders to work on for this coming weekend.  Thanks for reading the blog!
